Music Therapy in Mississauga
Music therapy in Mississauga uses sound, rhythm, creativity, and talk-based support within a therapeutic relationship for children, teens, and adults.
At Nurturing Wellness
Music therapy is a clinical, evidence-informed approach that uses sound, rhythm, and creative work alongside talk-based support. At Nurturing Wellness, Aprajita Saxena offers music therapy for children, teens, adults, and neurodivergent children and youth, including autistic children, children with ADHD, global developmental delays, and other neurodevelopmental differences. Sessions are available in English and Hindi, in person in Mississauga and online across Ontario.
When Words Are Not Enough On Their Own
Most therapy happens through talking. For many people, that works well. But sometimes what you are carrying does not have language yet because the words feel too small, too big, or too risky to say out loud. Music therapy is for those moments. It gives what you feel another way through.
Neurodivergent children and youth
Teens who may shut down in talk therapy but express themselves through sound, rhythm, or creativity.
Adults working through emotionally unsafe childhood experiences.
People experiencing anxiety, trauma responses, or nervous system overwhelm.
People looking for a different therapeutic path when talk therapy has not felt like enough.
Nurturing Wellness also offers child and youth therapy and individual therapy. Music therapy can sit alongside these services, not in place of them.
What Happens in a Music Therapy Session
You do not need to sing, play an instrument, or have any musical background.
Music therapy is gentle, guided, and shaped around you or your child. There is no performance, no pressure, and no “right” way to take part.
We talk.
There is space to share what is going on, how you are feeling, or what your child may be experiencing.
We use sound and rhythm.
This may include listening to music, simple instruments, movement, voice, or play. Everything is guided at a comfortable pace.
We support the body and nervous system.
Music can help slow things down, create safety, and give difficult feelings another way to be expressed.
We work together when needed.
For children, especially neurodivergent children, sessions may include coordination with parents and other care providers.
How Music Therapy Can Support Emotional Expression
Music therapy is a clinical, evidence-informed approach that uses music within a therapeutic relationship. It may support communication, social interaction, emotional expression, regulation, anxiety, mood, and nervous system calming.
At Nurturing Wellness, music therapy is provided by a trained music therapist and psychotherapist. It is not music lessons, sound healing, or a spiritual practice.
When emotions feel too big, too tangled, or too difficult to explain, music therapy can offer another way to begin.
As a therapist trained in music therapy and psychotherapy, I support children, teens, adults, and families in exploring emotions through a blend of conversation, sound, rhythm, creativity, and body-aware practices. My work is gentle, trauma-informed, and focused on helping you feel more grounded, regulated, and connected to yourself.
I work with adults navigating anxiety, trauma, life transitions, self-esteem, identity, belonging, and the ways stress can be held in the body. Together, we slow things down, make space for what feels difficult, and build practical tools that help you respond to life with more steadiness and self-understanding.
A meaningful part of my work is also with children, teens, and neurodivergent families navigating autism, developmental differences, ADHD, emotional regulation, and communication challenges. Whether you are seeking support for yourself, your child, or your family, music therapy offers a creative, compassionate space to feel heard, supported, and understood.
